Personal Training in Pickering

Retraine is a private, invitation-only training studio at 478 Kingston Rd in Pickering. Membership is capped at 24 people. Every session is one on one with the same coach, in a room where nobody is waiting for your rack. If you have been looking for a personal trainer in Pickering and what you actually want is a plan built for your body and someone watching you execute it, this page explains exactly how that works here.

What You Get

  • A 90-minute assessment first. History, injuries, movement screen, goals, lifestyle. Nothing is programmed before we know what we are programming for.
  • An individualized 12-week block. Written for your current capacity, not pulled off a shelf.
  • 60-minute one-on-one sessions, three to five times a week. Same coach every session, so the correction compounds.
  • Nutrition in the same thread. Weekly check-ins with macro and biomarker tracking, revisited every two weeks.
  • A re-test every eight weeks. Load up, deload, or rebuild. Progress is a measurement, not a feeling.

The Method, in Four Phases

1. Assess

Ninety minutes before any training is written. Movement screen using FMS and SFMA frameworks, injury history, work and sleep patterns, and the actual goal stated as a number.

2. Program

A 12-week block calibrated to what you can do now, with the progression already mapped. You see the plan. So does your coach, every session.

3. Retrain

Three to five supervised sessions a week. Strength work on compound patterns, conditioning calibrated to heart-rate zones, mobility programmed where the screen said it was needed. Nutrition and recovery adjust in the same conversation.

4. Sustain

An audit every eight weeks. Numbers get re-tested, the block gets escalated or rebuilt, and the next twelve weeks start from evidence.

The Four Disciplines

  • Strength. 60-minute sessions, three to five times a week. Compound lifts and functional patterning, loaded progressively and tracked in writing.
  • Conditioning. 45-minute heart-rate-calibrated circuits in zones Z2 to Z5, two to three times a week.
  • Mobility. 50-minute assess-and-program corrective work, built from your screen rather than a generic warm-up.
  • Nutrition. Weekly check-ins, macro and biomarker tracking, revisited every two weeks.

What Your First 12 Weeks Look Like

Week 0: the intro

Forty-five minutes, free. A 30-minute movement screen, a first real session, and a conversation about what your goal will require in time, frequency and money. You leave with a straight answer either way, including if the answer is that a commercial gym would serve you better.

Week 1: assessment and baseline

Ninety minutes of screening before a single set is programmed. Injury history, work and sleep patterns, movement quality under load, and the numbers we will re-test later. Nutrition baseline is set in the same week.

Weeks 1 to 4: pattern and load

Technique on the main patterns, conservative loading, and a lot of correction. Most members are surprised how much changes here without heavy weight. Conditioning starts in Z2 and mobility work targets whatever the screen flagged.

Weeks 5 to 8: build

Loads climb on a written progression. Sessions get harder in a planned way rather than a random one. Nutrition check-ins move from setting habits to adjusting numbers.

Week 8: first re-test

Everything measured at baseline gets measured again. The block either escalates, deloads, or gets rebuilt. This is the meeting where the training stops being a feeling and becomes a number.

Weeks 9 to 12: consolidate

Peak the block, then close it out with a full audit and the plan for the next twelve weeks. About 98 percent of members carry on from here, which is the statistic we care about most.

Who Trains Here

Beginners who want to learn to lift properly the first time. Professionals whose training has to fit into four focused hours a week. People coming back after an injury or a decade away. Lifters who have plateaued at a commercial gym and cannot see why. If you want a room to yourself and a coach who knows your file, that is the fit. If you want a 24-hour swipe card and the freedom to improvise, an area chain will serve you better, and we say so plainly in our guide to choosing a gym in Pickering.

Your Coaches

Ammar is the founder and head coach. NASM-CPT, PN1, FMS L2, with the methodology built from ten years of private coaching across three countries. Youssef coaches the Retraine method day to day, taking members through progressive overload and clean technique under load.

Results So Far

More than 200 members retrained since 2021, a 12-week average first block, and a 98 percent renewal rate after phase one. The renewal number is the one we watch, because it is the only honest measure of whether the training worked.

What Makes This Different From Buying Training at a Chain

  • The floor is capped, not shared. Twenty-four members total means your rack is free at 6pm on a Tuesday. That is a cost we carry so you do not queue.
  • One coach, not a rotation. The person who assessed you is the person coaching your fifth session and the one who notices when your left side is compensating.
  • Nutrition is in the same conversation. Not a separate package, not an app you get emailed, not a handoff.
  • Re-testing is scheduled, not requested. Every eight weeks, whether the numbers are flattering or not.
  • No contract at the intro. You see the room, train once, get the number, and decide.

Where We Are and Who We Serve

478 Kingston Rd, Pickering, ON L1V 1A4, minutes from the 401. Parking is on site, and because every session is booked in advance you arrive to a floor that is set up for you. Members drive in from Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Scarborough, Markham and east Toronto. If you are coming from outside Pickering, we mapped the drive and the reasoning on our Durham Region page.

What It Costs

We price by program rather than by the hour, because frequency and goal change the number. For the honest market ranges across the area, including what chains, independents and studios charge, read what a personal trainer costs in Pickering. You will get your own number at the intro, before any commitment.

FAQ

Where is Retraine in Pickering?

Do I need to be fit before I start personal training?

No. Every member starts with a 90-minute assessment, and the first block is written for the capacity you have today. Beginners and people returning after years away are the most common starting point here.

How many sessions per week does a member train?

Three to five 60-minute one-on-one sessions per week with the same coach, depending on the goal and the schedule. Conditioning and mobility work are programmed inside that, not sold separately.

Is Retraine open to the public?

No. Membership is capped at 24 people and access is by invitation after a free intro session, which is what keeps the floor uncontested and the coaching one to one.

What happens in the free intro?

A 45-minute Training and Nutrition Kickstarter: a 30-minute movement assessment, a first Retraine session, and a straight conversation about what your goal will require. No contract, no upsell.

Do you coach fat loss as well as strength?

Yes. Fat loss, body recomposition, strength, conditioning and mobility are all programmed through the same four-phase method, with nutrition tracked in the same weekly thread rather than handed off.
